Greetings:
As you may know (or may not), I’ve had a strong interest in the 1803-06 Lewis and Clark Expedition since I retraced the trail in a canoe and on foot with four other fellows in 1973.
Nowadays, at the young age of only 76, I do a lot of volunteer writing for the non-profit, volunteer-based Lewis & Clark Trail Alliance, including articles for the organization’s Substack project, where every week we publish an article about the history of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and an article with good, practical advice on places to visit along the 4,900-mile trail.
My latest article, published May 18, 2026, discusses the explorers’ nutrition and energy expenditures, as well as an account of how I lost the 50 pounds on our 1973 jaunt. Here’s the link:
Meat, Misery and Mind-boggling
